Description

from Scenic Helicopter Tours
Scenic Helicopter Tours offers a variety of tours with breathtaking views of the Smokies! Open 9 AM - Sunset daily. We can accommodate up to 6 passengers at a time. Scenic Helicopter Tours is one of the only helicopter operators allowed to fly into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Our facilities can also accommodate persons with disabilities.

French Broad River View: This flight takes you over the French Broad River and rolling hills of Sevier County. From 1,200 feet you will see a beautiful panorama of the Great Smoky Mountains. This flight covers 8 Miles.

Lake View Tour: Our Lake View tour takes you past the French Broad River and out to Douglas Lake, a 33,000 acre man-made lake with over 450 miles of shoreline. This flight takes you to an altitude of about 1,500 feet, providing a superb view of the Great Smoky Mountains to the South. Along the route you will see areas of farmland and quilt-like patterns of pasture land. As you approach the Lake, you’ll fly next to Douglas Dam. Your flight time will be about 6 minutes depending upon wind and weather conditions.

Extended Lake Tour: The Extended Lake Tour includes and extends beyond the Lake View flight. You will fly directly over Douglas Dam and proceed across Douglas Lake, nationally renowned for both largemouth bass and crappie fishing. In the summer, you’ll see astonishing sun-glistening views of the water and people enjoying their time on the lake. During the winter, TVA lowers the water level generating electricity, so you’ll have majestic views of exposed islands and coves.

As your flight heads southwest, you will see the Great Smoky Mountains in the distance. On this flight, the helicopter climbs to a slightly higher altitude than on the Lake View flight, allowing for greater visibility of the national park. Flightpath is about 16 miles.

Mountain Valley Tour: As you depart from the heliport toward the lower foothills and lots of undeveloped mountains and Bluff Mountain, you’ll be amazed at the view of the Smoky Mountains. 24 miles/tour duration is approximately 12 minutes depending upon wind and weather conditions.

Ridge Runner Tour: This is a newly named "classic" over the Chilhowee Mountain Range. Fly over the lesser developed areas. Historic downtown Sevierville and Pigeon Forge can be seen off in the distance. Mountains, ridges, and valleys are the highlight of this tour.

Gatlinburg Mountain Tour: Soar high above the foothills and lots of undeveloped mountains. This flight offers views of Sevierville, Gatlinburg, and Pigeon Forge too. A breathtaking experience! 36 miles/*tour duration of about 18 minutes.

Lake to Mountains Tour: This scenic tour is perfect for those who want to experience both lake and mountain views in one fabulous flight! Fly across Douglas Dam and along the western shore of beautiful Douglas Lake. As the flight turns southwest, you can see the Great Smoky Mountains in the distance. The tour continues southward over Sevierville, then follows the terrain up to the crest of Cove Mountain at the National Park boundary line where you’ll be met with spectacular views of Wears Valley. 50 miles/*tour duration of about 25 minutes.

*Tour times are approximate and dependent on winds and weather conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions about Scenic Helicopter Tours

How many people do the helicopters at Scenic Helicopter Tours hold?

Scenic Helicopter Tours' fleet consists of three different types of helicopters that can accommodate from 2 to 6 passengers depending upon the aircraft.

What time should I arrive for my scheduled flight?

Please arrive about 20 to 30 minutes prior to flight time to allow time for the safety briefing.

Is there an age limit?

There is no age limit. Children ages 23 months and under qualify as a lap child. So, if you don’t mind them riding in your lap, they can ride at no extra charge.

Can persons with disabilities take a flight?

Absolutely! One of their biggest thrills is to enable those who cannot hike the back country trails to still enjoy the beauty of the Smoky Mountains area.

What should I bring?

You don’t need to bring anything apart from your camera for taking video and photos. You may also bring your cellphone for taking photos. We also suggest wearing comfortable shoes, and dark-colored clothing for taking better photos. Light-colored clothing reflects on the transparent windows and can cause undesirable flares in your photos. This is why it is recommended to wear dark clothing when riding in a helicopter.

Where do Scenic Helicopter Tours depart?

Scenic Helicopter Tours' heliport is located at 1949 Winfield Dunn Parkway, Sevierville, Tennessee. Look for the big yellow helicopter.

Is there a weight limit?

Max passenger / per-seat weight limit is 300 lbs. Passengers exceeding 300 lbs. can still be accommodated in the Bell Jet or Long Ranger aircraft. An additional fee may apply, payable directly to Scenic Helicopter Tours on the day of the tour. Per FAA regulations and in the interest of passenger safety, all passengers must be weighed at check-in. Only the flight crew will have access to passenger weights, and all information will be kept confidential.

Is it appropriate to tip the pilot?

Pilot gratuities are accepted and greatly appreciated.

Can pets come along for the ride?

No. FAA regulations strictly prohibit animals on board any helicopter flight.
